Dear readers, read carefully on from here. There is much to see and much to hear. Only once a year does New Years come around. Okay that came out of nooooowhere. Guys how are you? Because I'm great. So last we left off we had Christmas and it was very nice. We had a beautiful time skiing and ate many delicious food. Now after that we drove all the way home and packed our bags for the Maldives.
So we woke up and got ready to drive to the airport while it was freezing cold outside. This was time for strategic cold-hot travel dressing. Oh you don't know strategic cold-hot dressing? Well it's when you have to be really smart on how you dress when you travel somewhere hot while it's cold back home. DON'T DENY IT we have all done it. The pure morning struggle. So after we accomplished this daring feat of getting dressed, we hopped in the car. When we finally reached the airport, got through security and all the other bits I don't really know, we found our departure gate and waited. And waited. And waited. Oh can you guess what we did next? No I bet you can't because we WAITED. Okay perhaps I'm exaggerating but it was a long time yo! The plane ride was pretty sweet. Okay yeah I guess Owen and I are spoiled children now right? Because we went on a business class flight and it was heaven. Like chocolate sprinkles IN a chocolate fountain. But hey what can you do? We went to coach seats and it was honestly fine. We still had TV's and I watched 'Me Before You' because there were just too many actors I loved in it. Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin and Neville Longbottom. How can that go wrong? I mean it was sad and I'm not going to spoil anything huge or whatever... but he dies and she cries. YEAH YEAH go ahead honk your horns at me! Blow your whistles! Pull out your SpongeBobs! (What is with me and SpongeBob?) If you haven't seen it yet you probably weren't going to so don't pout at me. After the plane we landed in Male WHERE IT WAS SO FRIKIN HOT. I'm serious. And to top it all off it was raining like the Notebook, people! We took a ferry over to Male to stay in a hotel for one night before going to the resort. When we got to the other side on the island it was super hard to hail a taxi. Like when the-guy-was-getting-eaten-by-the-shark-and-trying-to-get-out-with-a-chainsaw-in-Sharknado hard! And it's tough to say but we were forced to kidnap a man and steal his pickup truck- what? What are you saying, that I can't tell the truth?!!?? FINE, Sorry Dad... OKAY I WON'T SAY ANYTHING! I'M SORRY! Um... I mean we just got in a truck. We didn't um STEAL it. NO NO. Okay but in all seriousness my dad, Owen and I had to sit in the back of the truck (the part that had no roof and is used to carry heavy things) while my mom was safe from the wind and rain inside. We got to the hotel and everyone was absolutely exhausted. Let's just say SOME male figure in the family was yelling at the guy who arranged our float plane scheduling on the phone. Not that he didn't deserve to be yelled at but um... I think the hotel guy thought we were either crazy or American. Maybe both. So we all finally crashed into our rooms and fell asleep. Okay maybe I watched like two YouTube videos but they were important! The breakfast was actually lovely. There were eggs (I don't like eggs) but it was still quite good. After we left we stayed at the airport for a while and the waiting game continued. It was hot so my mother got vacation hair, I got grumpy, my dad got a bag of chips and some coke and Owen did nothing really. He just kinda went on like normal. A few sandwiches later, the plane was ready to board. This wasn't really a large plane. It's the tiny ones that float on the water, but it was still pretty cool. Now we were on with either a large Spanish family or large Italian family, and they had one person too many. So to pull up another seat they had to take the bags out of the plane. AND GUESS WHOSE BAGS THEY WERE. Yep they were our bags! So when we landed we had to wait for a while before our bags came GAH. I sound so ungrateful but c'mon, how would YOU feel? When we landed we were given a water bottle and a cool cloth for our hands or neck or whatever, and it smelled like CINNAMON! And let me explain. The resort we were staying at was on one of many islands in the Maldives called the Cinnamon Hakuraa resort. Therefore... CINNAMON! So my father was told we were getting a beach bungalow and I was disappointed. OKAY YES TERRIBLE PERSON. I get to go on this wonderful trip and I'm upset. The thing was is that when I looked up pictures, they were bungalows on the water and it was what I though we were getting. So I obviously didn't say this out loud, and we continued walking until we reached a dock. But it was a beach bungalow... anyways we kept walking until room 110: A WATER BUNGALOW! I was so happy! I was jumping all around and yelling! YAY! It was great! Then we went for our buffet lunch and relaxed the rest of the day. So most days in the Maldives were just spent relaxing. Eventually we got into the routine of getting up for breakfast, then heading over to the hammocks which was basically private. There was only ever us there and it was seriously calming. They were in the PERFECT place. I swear. There was still sun but it was shaded where the hammocks were and there was a cool breeze constantly coming through so you were never too hot. After the hammocks we would go for lunch and return back to our bungalow to relax. Then at 3:00 we'd go snorkeling (they took you to a different place everyday!) and see all types of fish! We even saw clams and things I can only describe as giant sea caterpillars who are stuck to a rock. The fish were MASSIVE I swear they were going to eat you. And even the little ones had teeth! Then we would go to the lounge next to the dock and relax with a drink until we got bored and either would go straight to dinner or back to the room, and then dinner. After dinner, pretty much every night we would use the mini projector I got for Christmas and watched movies until we all fell asleep. Pretty great right? Sometimes we changed our routine, like instead of snorkeling we would swim in our backyard which was LITERALLY THE OCEAN, and Owen and I would chase each other around. Or one time my brother and my dad went fishing while my mom and I stayed in and watched movies and read on our back deck. It was a seriously luxurious time. At the beginning of this blog post I wrote about New Years but honestly we just had a big buffet next to the beach (it was raining so we had to stay indoors!) and fell asleep before the countdown. It just wasn't really the same but New Years day was still fun! There were a couple stories like when I caught the snorkeling thief (Owen) who had been taking my snorkel and fins! Or when I was walking along the dock and dropped one of my mom's flip-flops that I was borow ing in the ocean (a single shoe) and my dad had to grab a life ring off the side of some random person's bungalow to rescue it.
